Healthy SAUCEry 4: From the Little Blue Boy Vegetarian House

Our recipe contributor today is the Little Blue Boy Vegetarian House (a.k.a. LBB Veggie House) in Cebu, Philippines.
LBB Veggie House is a little eating place on a big mission to spread the good word of vegetarianism to a predominantly meat-lovin’ culture – the land of Humba and Lechon.

EGGLESS MAYO (Garlic) Sauce

Name of sauce: Eggless Mayo (Garlic) Sauce
Type of sauce:  dip, condiment or salad dressing
Diet Type: vegetarian

Ingredients:

  • 2      cups      milk powder
  • 1      cup        water
  • 1      tsp         salt
  • 4      tbsp       sugar or honey
  • 1      cup        vegetable oil
  • 2      cloves    garlic (minced)
  • 3/4    cup       salad vinegar

Procedure:
In a blender, mix milk powder, water, salt, sugar (or honey), vegetable oil and garlic. Blend until the garlic is mixed well with the mixture. Add the vinegar and let it stand for about 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, it is now curding. Blend for few seconds to mix it well. 

Serve as condiments or dressing for fresh veggie salads.

FILIPINO STYLE CHILI SAUCE

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup native chilis, or small chilis with strong flavour
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 small onions
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp oil

Procedure:
1. Combine all the ingredients in a blender, blend until well-mixed.
2. Pour the mixture in a pan and simmer* on a low heat for about 5 minutes.

*Make sure to cover the pan, heating chilis can cause eye and nose irritation.
