Sawaya’s LEGO Life Reflections 4: Love, Peace & Song

Today I bring you three beautiful pieces from Nathan Sawaya’s The Art of The Brick exhibition at the ArtScience Museum, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. “Open Heart”, “Peace by Pieces” & “Sing!” These  artworks embody my wishes for all of us this New Year 2013. May our hearts be open to those in need, may we work for PEACE one little piece at a time, and may our days be filled with song.

Nathan’s Reflection:
“Have a heart. I built this heart shape using recycled LEGO bricks that folks have donated. Rather than let their old bricks become trash, I was happy to take them off their hands
and transform them into artwork.
Keep your heart open, one brick at a time.”

Here is another Sawaya sculpture built with donated pieces. According to a note next to it, there are only three places where bricks of the same colour are touching. (Visitors were encouraged to find them. One was two white bricks on the outer edge on the left. Another appeared to be two red bricks
at the front near the bottom.)Info Source

This peace piece may also have a message about diversity..here is a wonderful quote from Maya Angelou that can apply to this artwork…

Quote Reflection:
“We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.”

Nathan’s Inspiration:
“This was inspired when a friend of mine performed on stage. I was so enthralled by her singing that I pulled a napkin out of my pocket and sketched this idea. She literally “became the music” and this sculpture captured that.”
Quote Reflections on Singing:
“He who sings scares away his woes.”
“If everyone started off the day singing,
just think how happy they’d be.”
