I continue today with the 3rd of the 5 inspiring messages that I heard from Nick Vujicic, best-selling author and well-loved human being.
I met Nick Vujicic on May 30th during his store visit to Kinokuniya Singapore to promote his new book Stand Strong: You Can Overcome Bullying (and Other Stuff That Keeps You Down). I was so moved by his warmth and will power (& charisma too!) that I had a strong urge to delve into his world and help spread the word about his amazing story.
Let us hear from Nick on how bullying affected his life (from his website Life without Limbs)
“I am a bully’s dream, no doubt about it. No arms. No legs. No defense.
I never would have survived without the steady support of my family (a.k.a. my “bully defense system”). I grew up in a loving home where I was accepted, encouraged, and taught that I was beautiful just the way God made me. In the refuge of my home, I practically forgot that I had no arms or legs! But school was a different story.
Out in the world, other kids would point out my differences, laugh at me, and call me names. Those mean gestures tore away at my self-worth and at only eight years old I began thinking about ending my life. At age ten, I attempted it. The only thing that prevented me from drowning myself in the bathtub that day was the thought of the pain and grief my parents would go through. I am so thankful God intervened in that moment and spared my life…”

Excerpts from his book STAND STRONG as featured on Huffington Post
“If you’ve been bullied, the first thing you need to understand is that their attacks, taunts, and mean acts aren’t really about you, any flaws you might have, or anything you might have done. Bullies have their own issues. They pick on you to make themselves feel better, to vent their anger, to feel more powerful, or even because they can’t think of anything else to do. ” Read more
Inspiring Message from My Afternoon with Nick 3: A GOOD VISION for your life
“You need to have a good vision for your life. And not worry about the people who discourage you.” -Nick Vujicic
* Here is my third ‘salute collage’. As you can see, even as a toddler, Nick already knew how to play ball. And who would’ve thought it could be a good way to inspire others. Photo shows Nick playing soccer in Bogotá – what it doesn’t show is who he is playing with and where; he is playing with a young boy in a poor neighbourhood in Bogotá. See more photos on his website- Life without Limbs.
I salute you, Nick! You are a great inspiration!
So do… as Nick does – imagine and live your life as best you can!
