Today on the last day of our feature of the art of Dutch printmaker Marisa Keller, she invites us to reflect on life from the pond’s edge.

The PRINT output:
MK: In 2003 and 2004 I created an etching series relating to the edge of a pond. Like most people I like these water features with its own intimate eco systems. The etchings are all printed in colour and sometimes a double plate was used to create a rich layered image.

MK: This particular image expresses the sharp lines of the reed reflections juxtaposed with the softer textures of the water and other leaves. The eye is drawn to the middle of the image where the bright sun reflects on the watersurface contrasting with the dark reed shapes.

MK: At the time I didn’t print a whole edition. Now 10 years later, I will print this plate as a limited edition of 15 imprints to be included in a catalogue.
The catalogue with the print will be launched and available 29 and 30 March (2014) during the ArtWalk@Wessex, when artists living and working in Wessex Estate will have the annual open house event. During this weekend the studio will be open to the public between 11 am and 7 pm. Works from different series will be exhibited and can be purchased directly from the studio too. Everybody is welcome to visit my studio and view the work in person during this weekend.
A message from Nature-inspired Dutch Printmaker MARISA KELLER:
DDoA:
What message do you have for those who aspire to be professional artists/printmakers?
MK: To practice professionally as an artist is not a very defined career. Art needs to be your passion; you must have the desire to express and share your feelings and experiences. The most satisfing part of being an artist is the process of creating. Printmaking is just another media and method in which you can express your concepts. To me the most important thing for an (aspiring) artist is to work from the heart, make art that relate to your own experiences and thoughts, be creative and authentic and be not afraid to do things that may not be the ‘in-thing’ of the moment. And of course, just keep creating, you are an artist for life!
Today’s Quote on PONDS:
“When you drop any new idea in the pond of the world, you get a ripple effect. You have to be aware that you will be creating a cascade of change.”
