Breasts, Bras & Beyond (5) – Moobs or Gynecomastia

July 9 is celebrated by some as “International No Bra Day”. This week, I take the great opportunity to look into the world of  “Breasts, Bras & Beyond”

Today I bring you the much talked about MOOBS..Man Boobs
Examination … doctor checks Guo Feng’s man boobs

Here are some excerpts from the article on Feng:
Busty Guo Feng, 53, a CHINESE farmer has the world’s biggest set of MAN BOOBS, say doctors.

Feng is desperately seeking a solution to his massive moobs as they get in the way of his manual work.

And fascinated locals queue up at his dairy farm to point and laugh — forcing him to wear a heavy coat at all times, even in hot weather.

“I sometimes think the doctors don’t want to help me with this because they find me a medical curiosity.”

Doctors wondered if he had eaten any poisons or contaminants but have found nothing after testing his blood. His genetic material is also normal. It is not a cancer.

Mr Feng is so distressed by his condition, he says he will cut off his moobs himself if no one can help.

Just what is it about moobs?
from BBC

The number of men having breast reduction operations is rising dramatically, but is this really the result of the media spotlighting the physical flaws of male celebrities?
This is an era when glossy magazines and tabloids delight in the most minor flaw of the female celebrity.
The actress with bags under her eyes, the singer with an untrimmed armpit, the model with a sweat patch, all are presented blinking in the paparazzo’s flashbulb as their imperfections are chronicled.

Every man has breast tissue, but some have excessive breasts. This ranges from classical cases of gynaecomastia, prompted by a range of causes, to breasts enlarged entirely by deposits of fat over the pectoral muscles.

There are a fair amount of rumours surrounding the cause of man boobs ranging from medical illness to the inclusion of hormones in food and even water the vast amount of which aren’t actually proven. So, which are the real causes of man boobs?

Gynecomastia is a medical condition that leads to the growth of man boobs by creating imbalanced hormone production in your body resulting in higher levels of estrogen being produced compared to testosterone. Typically men have higher levels of testosterone whilst women have higher levels of estrogen, when this is reversed side effects appear such as man boobs.
Gynecomastia can develop naturally in your body but can be treat medically, it is always worth getting a check-up from your doctor if you don’t seem to be able to get rid of man boobs as if diagnosed with gynecomastia then your doctor can advise you on treatments which may sometimes lead to surgery.

Cimetidine and Gynecomastia
Cimetidine is a drug used to treat internal issues such as stomach ulcers and intestinal problems. If you already have gynecomastia but don’t have man boobs then this drug can cause the growth of man boobs and recent research has shown that a man who does not have gynecomastia but is taking cimetidine for medical issues has a one in four chance of developing gynecomastia in turn potentially leading to the growth of man boobs.

A common cause – fat
By far the most common cause of man boobs is simply fat. Being overweight is the biggest cause of man boobs and if you are fortunate enough that this is the case and the formation of man boobs is not medical then you can effectively get rid of your man boobs through a healthy diet, determination and exercise.
Looking back on the cause of man boobs it’s easy to blame drugs or say you have a medical condition but most of the time it’s simply down to being overweight. If you have seriously tried to eat healthily and exercise but have had no luck reducing your mam boobs then it is worth consulting a doctor, however you may mind that you just needed to try harder and stick to the diet and exercise.

In 2009, Gynecomastia (male breast reduction) with 250,984 operations — ranked number 9 on the top 10 surgeries in the world.(Info Source)

This is a promotional video of Dr. Mordcai Blau White Plains, Westchester, New York, near New York City,  a leading Plastic Surgeon specializing in Gynecomastia and male breast reduction for adolescent, adult, and Body Builder.
WARNING: includes footage of actual procedure
which you may find disturbing.

If it’s a case of fat & obesity…
Is this just taking a surgical shortcut to get rid of male breasts that are merely deposits of fat on top of one’s pectoral muscles…how about a change in diet and lifestyle?

If many bodybuilders are going through this procedure…
you have to wonder what are they ‘doing’ or ‘taking’ that’s causing the unusual growth.(many of them take steroids or pro hormones)

Personally, I think that unless it is a medical concern, the better remedy is for people to change their diet and lifestyle. And if they don’t wish to change anything in their life, then they (and those dear to them) will have to accept/embrace them ‘just as they are, MOOBS included!) I just feel for Mr. Feng, how come doctors still haven’t figured out what’s causing the unusual growth or is there some ‘truth’ China is hiding from the world. With all the industrial pollution in China there may be more to this story than meets the eye…

    62. Male. Overweight by about 50-60 pounds. Prominent nipples. Definite swelling around chest seem like the start of male breasts. Do I have a problem with them? No. They have actually enhanced my love life (monogamous, hetereosexual, married).

Unhealthy medical conditions apart, males with breasts suffer only from the opinions of idiots. The excessive attention paid by some to the surface, the superficial, coupled with the avoidance of attention paid to the person within. THAT is what is wrong.
