Dogs Divine 3: Norah’s Man of the Hour
We continue with our series on poetry dedicated to man’s best friend. According to Mother Nature Network, “Ninety-one percent of pet owners consider their animals to be family, and more than half think of their furry family members as their children. With numbers like these, it should come as no surprise that musically inclined pet owners have penned songs in their pets’ honour.” via mothernaturenetwork
Today we feature American singer-songwriter Norah Jones‘ “Man of the Hour” (released 2009). Yes, the M-A-N in her song is really a D-O-G!

It’s him or me that’s what he said
But I can’t choose between a vegan and a pot head
So I chose you because you’re sweet
And you give me lots of lovin’ and you eat meat
And that’s how you became my only man of the hour
You never lie and you don’t cheat
And you don’t have any baggage tied to your forefeet
Do I deserve to be the one who will feed you breakfast, lunch and dinner
And take you to the park at dawn
Will you really be my only man of the hour?
I know you’ll never bring me flowers
Flowers they will only die
And though you’ll never take a shower together
I know you’ll never make me cry
You never argue, you don’t even talk
And I like the way you let me lead you
When we go outside and walk
Will you really be my only man of the hour?
My only man of the hour
My only man of the hour
Story Behind ‘Man of the Hour”
“Jones tells David Steinfeld on the American Songwriter a Poodle is the “Man of the Hour.” She told him: “His name is Ralph and he’s a poodle. [But] I like to say that he’s a scruffy, manly poodle. Because you say poodle and people start rolling their eyes… My dogological clock started to tick. So I got a dog [and] it’s great. I’m madly in love with him.” via pawprintpost

It doesn’t seem fair that this St. Bernard is posing to be the Man of the Hour on the Norah’s album cover…we need to see the real man, Norah’s poodle named RALPH. I’ve searched the internet for a photo of Ralph with Norah but I couldn’t find a single one. So help me demand “Show us Ralph! Show us Ralph! Show us Ralph!”
